Spring Forward!

Hey Fashionistas!

Ahh, there's nothing like a little spring fever! The flowers just blooming, the sun coming out[finally!]---all that's missing is a fresh spring wardrobe with the latest trends. But what kinds of trends can you wear straight from the runway without buying a whole new wardrobe? Here are my top three favorite wearable trends for spring:

3. Trenches Over Dresses
Fall trenches lighten up over flowy daytime frocks:

Aggyness Dean in Anna Sui's bohemian take.

A fresh floral look from
Marc by Marc Jacobs.

2. Blazers+Shorts=Chic Sophistication

Nothing says 'fashion forward' like a blazer and tailored shorts.

Lanvin's black and shiny ensembles [above right] are perfect for an elegant night party-seriously sophisticated yet totally trendy.

Backstage at Alexander Wang,[above left]bright
pastels proved that this tailored look is anything but business.
Another look by Wang[ right] puts some zest into the trend.

1. White Hot

Embrace your inner goddess with a flowy white number.

At 3.1 Phillip Lim [ left], a simple white chiffon shift is all you need. Rebecca Taylor's hippie goddess
ensembles[centre]were all the rave on the
runway. Ann Demeulemeester's more complex frocks perfect for the girl who marches to her own beat.

Bonjour Fashionistas!

Chanel, the ever-so-chic French fashion house, apparently shares our guilty pleasures to shop. Inspired by the boutiques' gift bag, these calfskin shoppers are a chic alternative to the brown bag [no offense, Bloomingdales!]. Personally, the bags inscribed CHANEL 31, Rue Cambon are a nice touch- this historic boutique is tres-chic. And for most of us who can't shop til drop[ at least not at Chanel], the new gym bag is the functional shopping bag- so before buying another bag, think about using the shopping bag your old bag came in!

Oh, Doll-ing!

[[[from left: Nicole Miller; Koi Suwannagate; Kenneth Cole]]]

During fashion week, a certain blonde icon takes the cake in her honorary birthday bash. Yes, in honor of Barbie's 50th Anniversary, she starred in a life-sized Bryant Park runway show, full of couture inspired by Barbie girl herself. Every generation of the doll is displayed by a wide array of talented American designers[ Diane von Furstenburg! Donna Karan! Anna Sui!] , all wrapped up in a blonde haired and pink-heeled package. Vintage Barbie[ think 50's-60's cat eye glasses, high ponytail, and black and white graphics], Malibu Barbie[ complete with the on-the-go suitcases, over-sized shades, and glam {faux} fur coats] , and Futuristic Barbie[ all-out in plastic capes and sholder pads, fake lashes, and shiny architectural ensembles] travel through pop culture on the catwalk. And a cute suprise at the end is the icing on this 7-layer birthday cake. The runway bash was inspirational and a fabulous celebration of a cultural style icon for fashionistas beyond America. Check out the whole show, you won't want to miss it, doll-ing!

Under the Sea

Hey fashionistas!

Does your eye not stare into Zena Holloway's lovely underwater photography like it's a fairy tale? Zena is so talented and artistic photos are truly stunning. Her work has been mostly editorial[Vogue, Dazed and Confused] and commercial[David Morris, D & G, Nike, Olay]. Rock the Sprouse!

Hey fashionistas,

I have been raving about the new Stephen Sprouse/Louis Vuitton tribute collection. Marc Jacobs, the artistic director of Louis Vuitton, took Stephen Sprouse's eclectic prints of the 80's and injected them into Lois Vuitton leggings, bags, shoes, dresses, and accesories. My favorite piece is the Keepall 50 bag in in fuschia[above]. Though the prices are sky-high, this off-the-wall collection is pure genius.

Big dots are a fun and bold trend for spring. Black and white are elegant, yet House of Holland's are fresh and mod [especially paired with florals]. And as if we didn't already love Marni's bright prints, these colorful dots were a delightful take on the trend. Michael Kors' version was a little sportier and varied in size. But Undercover gave us bright dots that somewhat resembled a Twister board...
